    “DeClutter and Donate Week” to Kick Off in Downtown Utica for GO Month

    The media is invited to a short press conference on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 9:00am at The Stanley Theater to join Mayor Robert Palmieri and Deb Cabral “The DeClutter Coach” as they kick off Declutter and Donate Week in downtown Utica in honor of GO Month.

    Throughout the week, Deb and her team will be filming multiple episodes of their hit national TV show Organization Motivation! at Utica businesses and residences. Shows will then air throughout the country in 16 states in early 2017, putting a well-deserved spotlight on Utica.

    She will be donating her services and making big changes to living and work spaces in Utica to alleviate the stress of clutter, increase their efficiency and implement habits that will help them KEEP organized throughout the year.

    Segments will include:

    • Bite Bakery and Cafe’s Doug and Jason Allen-Leonard’s loft apartment in Bagg’s Square
    • The Stanley Theatre
    • The Utica Zoo
    • YWCA of the Mohawk Valley

    Deb Cabral shares, “My team and I are very excited to work with these Utica companies and individuals, and I thank Mayor Palmieri for his continued support. We’ve been watching Utica make a strong comeback over the past couple of years and believe that decluttering and organizing is an important factor to help strengthen it even more from within. We hope to make this an annual event.”

    As for donating, Deb will work with each person and company they’re filming to donate items to Utica-based agencies and also would like to put a call out to the community to encourage them to take the week of January 23-27 to go through their homes and offices for things that are in good shape but that they no longer need, from furniture to clothes, and donate them. A comprehensive list of local agencies to donate to will be provided at the press conference.

              Tours By Design of Hinckley, New York announced that a new website went on line July 6.  The mobile responsive website will make it much easier for visitors to read their information on line when using their tablets, cell phones and other mobile devices.

              Tours By Design President Carol Hamlin Buczek, CTIS worked with another local company to create the refurbished site.  Buczek says “we put the project out to bid last year to a few companies and chose Mohawk Valley GIS for the work”.  MVGIS is located in Utica and is owned by Linda Rockwood. 

              The website, www.toursbydesign.org features upcoming public tours that are open to individuals, tells a little bit about the company, has photos of recent trips, and testimonials from travelers.  There is also a link to the Tours By Design Facebook page and a page dedicated to trips already set up for pre-formed groups but that are open to the public.

    Buczek thought it was important to identify some of the reasons why travelers should know a little about the company and the person behind it.  “Many small tour companies have come and gone in our area over recent years.  Tours By Design was founded by me in 2002 making this our 14th year of business.  And I had six years of group tour operator experience before that working for another company.  We are not a fly-by-night, or just someone offering tours for fun on-the-side.  We have experience, knowledge, education and are dedicated to offering quality services” Buczek says.  Tours By Design is a member of the American Bus Association (ABA) and is fully insured as a tour operator. 

    The majority of the business is dedicated to customizing trips for pre-formed groups but there are some tours offered for individuals.  Tours By Design also buys into extended tours through other larger companies.  In recent years these trips have included Ireland, Alaska, and next month a trip out west to include Yellowstone National Park.  There is a link on the website to a number of Guaranteed Departure trips offered through the TAP program and these are open for individual reservations as well.  Buczek offers these guaranteed departures thanks to her membership in the ABA.  Tours By Design is open weekdays from 9am until 5pm. 

              When choosing a company to create the new website Buczek says “It was important to me to work with a local business, and one that is also a member of a Chamber of Commerce that I belong to”.  Tours By Design and MVGIS are both members of the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce.  Tours By Design also belongs to the Rome Chamber and Trenton Chamber, and MVGIS to the Greater Utica Chamber.  Both companies are also members of the Mohawk Valley Business Womens Network.  “We join these organizations for many reasons and one of them is to do business within the membership, members helping members is what it’s all about” according to Buczek.  

              The new website was partially funded by grants awarded to Tours By Design in 2015 by the Trenton Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Alliance of the Mohawk Valley.  “I’m very grateful to both of these organizations for the financial assistance and helping us update our website and give us a greater online presence” Buczek says.

    The Small Business Administration, Procurement Assistance Center at the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center, North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center, NYS Women’s Business Center and SCORE—Utica Chapter are pleased to co-sponsor a workshop  on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the SUNY Polytechnic Student Center.  The “Opening Doors to Government Contracting” workshop will provide valuable information and resources to help small businesses do business with the government.   Opening Doors Utica Flier 2015.pdf

    A panel of local small business owners will share their contracting success strategies and field questions from the audience. Procurement resource specialists will present workshops on Federal Contracting & Marketing to Federal Agencies, a Federal Certifications and State Certifications & Marketing to State Agencies. New this year Speed Networking with Agencies, Large Corporations & Exhibitors, such as ConMed, City of Utica, Oneida County, U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, Welch Allyn.

    The cost is $10.00 per person. Attendees will be treated to a continental breakfast and will have the opportunity to network with other small business owners, exhibitors and presenters.

    Carol Buczek owner of Tours by Design is the proud winner of the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce 2015 Endowment award  Carol was awarded a $1000 Grant which will allow her to update her website to be mobile friendly to reach a broader customer base.
